“Years of Therapy in Six Hours”: Julia’s Licensed Psilocybin Journey

Julia before her licensed psilocybin journey in Bend, Oregon

What can a psilocybin journey offer someone who’s already spent years doing deep inner work?

Julia had a strong foundation in spiritual practices, therapy, and somatic work. But after her mother passed away, she experienced grief and burnout that her usual practices weren’t helping her process. Basic everyday things felt completely overwhelming. She needed to process what she was carrying without having to keep talking her way through it.

Julia shared, “It felt so incredible to have something that allowed me to feel what I needed to feel without having to talk about it because talking about it made it worse.”

Having already tried ketamine, Julia felt drawn to psilocybin. She was curious about the sacred, cosmic aspects of the medicine and wanted to go deeper.

Preparing for the Journey: Intentions and Surrender

Julia and I completed two preparation sessions to lay the groundwork before her journey. Having experienced psychedelics before, she really appreciated this legal structure saying, “You don't know what you don't know—preparation is huge!”

Together, we focused on clarifying her intentions while opening to surrender. As we discussed, a psychedelic journey begins well before that day. The moment you set your intentions, the mind starts shifting and tuning in, much like preparing for a vision quest.

During our integration call, Julia reflected on the intentions she had written before her session:

“I rolled my eyes when you said some people write a list and everything gets checked off. But I did…

I got everything I asked for. It was unbelievable.”

How To Prepare For A Licensed Psilocybin Experience

Beyond Talk Therapy: What Julia’s Psilocybin Journey Felt Like

When Julia arrived at Bendable Service Center in downtown Bend, the warm, welcoming, home-like environment helped her settle in. From the comfortable bed to fresh flowers, and oracle card altar, every detail was intentional.

Her journey was deeply emotional, bringing tears, difficult memories, physical sensations, and spiritual insights. She commented:

“I seriously felt like I was having a-has for five or six hours.”

One of Julia’s primary intentions was to meet her “Maker” and experience the divine directly. During her journey, concepts she had understood intellectually seemed to take on a deeper meaning, including a sacred presence within everything, even her past pain. She said: “It was divine. It was sacred.”

Julia cried as she moved through grief, family memories, and difficult emotions. Yet what stood out was how safe she felt:

“I was crying for most of it, but in the most... I felt so gently held through it. I never felt scared. There was no critic present—just a very loving witness of everything.”

Somatic Release & Music

Julia also experienced the journey deeply in her body, describing physical sensations and release at a cellular level. During more intense moments, I incorporated weighted tuning forks, which she felt supported what was moving through her.

Music played a huge role too. Before her session, I curated a personalized playlist tailored to her intentions and the natural arc of the medicine.

She said, “The music was insane.

It was like I was being played by the music.

The playlist was just as important as everything else that was set up.”

Revisiting the playlist afterward also became part of her integration, bringing back imagery and insights from her journey.

How Music Guides Your Psilocybin Journey

Feeling Safe Enough to Let Go

One of the most common concerns I hear from people considering psychedelics is: Will I feel safe?

Julia described feeling extremely vulnerable during her journey and realizing how important it was to know she was supported:

“I could just let go. It’s like, I’m being held… by the medicine, by you.”

Having experienced psilocybin previously without the same level of preparation and professional support, Julia had something to compare this experience with. Her conclusion was clear: she would not want to navigate an experience this powerful alone. She emphasized the importance of having knowledgeable guidance from someone you genuinely trust.

What Changed for Julia

When Julia and I spoke after her experience, one of the first things she said was:

“I feel like a different person. I do.”

What I find even more meaningful is how she described that difference.

Julia noticed more spaciousness in her daily life. Situations that previously could have triggered an immediate reaction seemed to be happening more slowly. Instead of automatically becoming absorbed in the reaction, she could notice it. She described becoming more of the witness and recognizing, “Oh, I actually have a choice here.”

Then Julia shared the line that best captures the depth of her experience:

“It was years of therapy in six hours.”

That’s also why integration matters. Julia described her journey like reaching the top of a mountain. Integration is about bringing what you experienced there back into everyday life. The insights can be extraordinary. The real work is learning how to live them.

For Julia, the experience wasn’t about avoiding what she was carrying. It was about meeting it differently, with greater openness, compassion, and choice. That’s empowered healing.
